As a deeply religious country, the Christian calendar dates are strictly observed. Spain is also well-known for its ferias (free
days) and fiestas (festivals)
and there are certainly no shortage of these in Andalucia. As well as the national festivals there are local traditional Andalucian
celebrations providing plenty of opportunity to enjoy Spanish culture.
THE CELEBRATION OF CARNAVAL - early to mid February (before Lent)
Carnaval ('carnival' in english) is predominantly a Roman Catholic tradition (although certain aspects probably
have their roots in Roman festivals) and it is celebrated every year throughout Europe, Latin America and other regions of the world.

good harvest is also Estepona's own patron saint.
FIERA ET FIESTA SAN BERNABÉ - June
Annual celebration of Marbella's patron saint held for a week in June.
FIESTA DE SAN JUAN - Summer Solstice
A 'welcome to the Summer' festival held on the shortest night of every year, celebrated with music and dancing, bonfires and fireworks.
FERIA DEL CARMEN - on or around 16th July
This is the annual celebration of the patron saint of fishermen.

The centre of town comes to life with parties day and night.
